Day 2: Students will write the linear equation of a line using data from a line of best fit, or given 2 points. First, to write an equation, you use two points that the line of best fit passes through. Then, you put the two points in x y form, for example (x,y). Then, you get the two points and you do y-y over x-x. When you complete this, you will get your slope. Then the final step is to take one of your points in the x y form and plug it into the equation of y=mx+b. after you d this , you will get your x-interecpt and you put the slope and the x-intercept together to get your equation.

Quiz:

1. When finding the slope, which is correct; y-y over x-x, or x-x over y-y?
2. In the equation y=mx+b, what do x and b represent?
3. How do you find the b in the equation?

Answer Key:
1. y-y over x-x is the correct way to find the slope.
2. In the equation y=mx+b, x represents the slope and b represents the y-intercept.
3. To find b, you take one of the points from the graph, for example (1,4), and you plug it into the equation of y=mx+b with 1 being x and 4 being y.
