Day 4

Students will graph linear inequalities. To graph a liner equation, you need to make a table with a x and y column. in the x column, you put numbers in numerical order. Then, to find the numbers in the y column, you plug the numbers from the x cloumn into the equation of the graph. For example, if the equation is y=4x-2 and the number from the x column is 1, then you do 4x1 which gives you 4. Next you do 4-2 which gives you 2, the y value. Then, you take the numbers from your data table and make them into points(x,y). Then, you find the y intercept by taking one of the points and plugging into the equation y=mx+b. Lastly, you start the graph by marking your y intercept, then you graph the points from your data table. If everything is done correctly, you should end up with a straight line.

Quiz:

1. Fill in the data table if the equation is y=2x+1.

2. What is the equation for the graph above?
3. What is the y intercept on the graph above?

Answer Key:

1. (-2,-3), (-1,-1), (0,1), (1,3), (2,5).
2. The equation is y=2x+3.
3. The y intercept is (0,3).
