Day 5: Students will be able to write an equation of a line given data points. The first step to finding the eqaution is to look and see where the line crosses the y axis. Doing this will give you your y intercept. Next, to find your slope, you see how much each point rise and run by. The slope is always rise over run, so if you find that each point rises by 3 and runs by 2, then your slope is 3/2. So, now you have your y intercpet and your slope and you can make this into an equation by following the equation y=mx+b; m is the slope and b is the y intercept.
Quiz:
1.When finding the slope, is the slope rise over run or run over rise?
2. What is the formatted eqaution for the slope of a line?
3. What is the equation of the graph above?
Answer Key:
1. The slope of a line is always rise over run.
2. The formatted eqaution of a line is y=mx+b.
3. The equation of the graph above is -2/1x+4 or -2x+4.
Good job at explaining it.
